John and Liz purchased the property at 58 Bayview Road French Island in May 2025. The cabins were established a few years prior to their purchase of the land.

This was John's dream to live on land with his array of birds comprising of Australian natives, along with exotic birds such as Macaws and other animals. And with approximately 82 acres of land his dream came to reality.

Liz closely followed his dream and now with the running of the cabins and working on the mainland they are kept quite busy, but always have time for a chat with the cabin guests and the locals on the island.

John has been a wildlife carer for many years and has enjoyed rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing numerous native species back into the wild.

With their expertise in the field of animal care and husbandry, both John and Liz can be called upon to assist in any incidents of injured wildlife on the island.

John has run a commercial cleaning business (Baxter Cleaning Services) on the mainland for over 25 years, hence our guests will notice the changes and eye for detail John has when it comes to maintaining a clean, fresh and welcoming environment. â€‹

Liz continues to work on the mainland. Although the to and from the island by ferry on a daily basis is taxing, she does enjoy the weekends with her husband John, looking after the animals and birds along with the upkeep of the cabins and of course the constant searching for the koalas and wildlife on the property and around French Island.

The cabins have recently had an upgrade to the bedding and amenities that are provided in the cabins to ensure the comfort of all our guests.

The contractors that mainly hire out the cabins enjoy a peaceful place to call home away from home.
